Creating Circumstances

Art is all about creating. And so are our lives.

Recently I received a message suggesting a book from the previous century. The book is entitled "Consciously Creating Circumstances" by George Wins Plummer. Inside this delightful book is a reference to a poem by John Burroughs (1837-1921). Burroughs was a nature essayist, a close friend of Walt Whitman, and studied William Wordsworth and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Happy New Year , and may this be a year of wonderful creations for you. For your enjoyment, here is the complete version of Mr. Burroughs' poem, "Waiting".

"Serene I fold my hands and wait,
Nor care for wind, nor tide, nor sea;
I rave no more 'gainst time or fate,
For lo, my own shall come to me.

I stay my haste, I make delays;
For what avails this eager pace?
I stand amid the eternal ways,
And what is mine, shall know my face.

The stars come nightly to the sky;
The tidal wave comes to the sea;
Nor time, nor space, or deep, nor high,
Can keep my own away from me."
